Well for the first year they (children) are a bit like a pot plant.

It's that crazy time of year where we worry about everybody but ourselves. So don't forget to do something for yourself this holiday season
Since moving to Wellington we have spent a few hoilday's on the road, traveling to Morrinsville, Hamilton, Auckland and Gisborne; although with the additional of the Tiny Human last December, we decided to stay put (didn't fancy traveling with a 20day old baby). This year the Tiny Human family is off on an adventure and we will be back on the road, which means am trying to wrap up everything before that happens. It seems this year I am crazy busy and I am when compared to the previous December of sitting on the couch having newborn cuddles. This year there is shoe painting to be done, t-shirts to draw up & paint, photos to edit, a house to tidy, laundry to wash & dry, a blog to write AND a Tiny Human to tend to (who wasn't his usual happy self for a few days). I'm a little bit anxious about how much longer the first leg of our drive will be with the Tiny Human, especially since aunty Google tells me it's a 6.5hour drive with no traffic. Hopefully some blogging from the road will happen, so that should pass a little bit of time...until I lose reception. Have you driven from Wellington to Auckland with little ones? Is there anywhere that you recommend stopping? The Plunket & Womans Restrooms in Hunterville are at the top of my list, but do you know of other good rest rooms? Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and here on the blog to see what we get up to this summer. Who would have thought that a video of a beagle could bring such joy? Well last night a friend posted an old video of a dog they had, he the video he barks and the Tiny Human thought this was hilarious. Wondering if all dogs would get the same reaction I took to YouTube in search of videos. The Tiny Human and I watched a few videos with no laughter, until we came across a video by ilpeppino of his beagle Niko. Maybe the Tiny Human remembers meeting the Elvis & Chico (both beagles), when we went to Nelson earlier in the year.
I'm not sure what it is, but we've viewed the video a few times now. Does your little one have a favourite YouTube video? The Bearded One and I have never been big on Christmas (does this explain the lack of seasonal posts?), we've never done anything special for our birthdays or anniversaries and so far that hasn't changed with having the Tiny Human around. This year Christmas is on a Friday and I don't know how other people feel but it doesn't really feel too much like Christmas. This could be from my lack of visiting malls or places that really get into the spirit (I do try to avoid the Christmas thing though). Anywho in the spirit of that holiday we don't celebrate, here are our... Less Than $20 Stocking StuffersTOMY BATH OCTOPALS SQUIRTERS IN GIFT TUBE $14.99 at Whitcouls The Tiny Human recieved these for his birthday and absolutely loves them. He has a couple in the bathroom for bath time and a couple around the house or in his bag for when we're out. Water play or just general play, these guys do the trick. THAT'S NOT MY... $11.99 at Baby City The Tiny Human was very spoilt for his birthday and recieved a "That's Not My Lion" book. He loves the different textures throughout the book and the pages are nice & thick, to make it easy for little hands to grab, hold and turn. Baby City has a few That's Not My... books available. The following are listed on the website, however selection may vary in store - Princess, Train, Kitten, Truck, Fairy, Baby, Puppy, Tiger, Teddy and Plane. ANIMAMBO MARACAS $9.50 at Little & Loved Another from the birthday present list and I can hear your groaning from here at the thought of giving your little one maracas, but these are great; brightly coloured and thankfully not too noisy. I have a feeling that the Tiny Human will be using his maracas for a long time to come. TEETHING FOR ODIN TEETHER $16.00 at Helles Teeth The Tiny Human loves his Helles Teeth teethers, he enjoys looking at them, playing with them and chewing them. The Tiny Human has a Shimmering Bitfrost Metallic set, but you can buy individual teethers. Helles Teeth have three teethers available and they come in a few different colours. Mjornlnir/Thor's Hammer in Odin's Beard Grey and Steel Blue, Sleipnir/Odin's Steed in Raven Black and Norwegian Red, and Jormungandr/Midgard Serpent in Limescale Green and Asgard Gold. SANTA FUN $12.90 for 200g at Lush It doesn't need to be Santa Fun, just any kind of Fun makes a great present. Fun can be used as a soap, shampoo, a bubble bath and even a malleable toy, so it is great fun for both big & little kids (even those at heart). And did you know that 2.5% of sales from every bar of Fun is contributed to FUNd, a LUSH initiative which supports charities in Fukushima, Japan that create safe places for children to play outside. Besides it being easy, why buy party decorations? Especially when you're a creative and have things laying around from that one project you were going to do that time. Naturally for the first Tiny Human birthday, I wanted a bunting sign stating the event (My First Birthday) and of course I didn't want to buy something that I could make myself. To make a paper bunting sign like this you will need... Cardstock (colour of choice) I used Rosie's Studio Pad 40 Sheet A4 Blue, which was left over from Spawn Shower last year. Great to have on hand. 110gsm A4 (colour of choice) 1inch-ish Ribbon (colour of choice) Scissors Needle & Thread HOW TO
Yay! You should now have your very own paper bunting banner or be well on your way to creating one. YOU GO GLENN COCO! Last week while strolling the supermarket with grandma we came upon these things called Baby Puffs. There were a couple of other products on the shelves (of course not together) by Little Bellies and after a bit of humming and haring, we decided to get a pack of Bursting Blueberry Baby Puffs for the Tiny Human to try; worst case scenario is that he wouldn't like them. The Bearded One spotted the Baby Puffs when we got home and mentioned that they are for 9+months and he doesn't remember seeing them when the Tiny Human was that age, so we are guessing they are newish to New Zealand or at least to Countdown. Baby Puffs are certified organic, low in sugar & salt and are gluten & wheat (they also don't have any of that artificial stuff). So back to the salt and sugar thing. per 100g Baby Puffs have 1.1g sugars and 2mg sodium. Per serving (12g) it dwindles down to 0.1g sugars and 0.2mg sodium. In this day in age it's rare to read the packaging on something and see such low numbers. To my surprise the Tiny Human LOVED the Bursting Blueberry Baby Puffs and left a couple of Tiny Human sized purple mouth prints on people...opps. So when I returned to the supermarket this afternoon and saw Yummy Carrot Baby Puffs I had to get them for the Tiny Human to try out (I also got another pack of Bursting Blueberry). At the moment it seems like the Tiny Human is trying to eat us out of house and home, so little snacks like these are great, especially since he isn't overly keen on fruit...he'll eat them, but "eh". This discovery of Little Bellies products will have me looking on the shelves every visit to the supermarket for something new to try out. Maybe next we will try the Corn Cakes. Little Bellies Facebook: here Little Bellies website: littlebellies.net.au A little over a year ago when I started getting contractions we drove down the road to Owhiro Bay and went for a walk around to Island Bay. On the way back we stopped in at The Bach for a drink and little nibble. During our visit Ma (which isn't her name, unless you're one of her kids) who was on counter that day told us how proud she was of her kids; one had just been in a movie and her lawyer son had been doing well so had brought The Bach. No doubt, new owners mean change, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. And for the past year just as the south coast is constantly changing, The Bach has been going through it's own changes. A lick of paint, new outside tables & chairs, a menu overhaul, beer & cider taps, artworks on the wall and the biggest new change, the removal of the cabinet and the creation of Whero. Now that we live down on the south coast, The Bach is definitely our local (we live just around the corner), and it has been great to see the changes they have made in the short time we have lived here. Earlier in the week after dropping grandma at the airport we stopped by The Bach for a spot of lunch, this is when we found out about Whero. The Bearded One & I ordered the D.I.Y grilled hoki filet Taco's, I had tried the D.I.Y Taco's a few months earlier and in that short time they have turned into this whole other amazing dish. I had told The Bearded One that we could share the D.I.Y Taco's, but the reality is they were so good that we had to restrain ourselves into sharing. The Tiny Human also enjoyed nomming down on the fish I gave him as well, and it was all washed down with a couple of milkshakes. Today on the way back from a visit to the post shop I thought I would stop in for lunch, The Tiny Human was asleep in his pushchair, so why not. I ordered Aunties Chowder, a ginger beer and a chocolate milkshake (yes I LOVE my milk). My order arrived fairly promptly, but best of all there was wifi for while I waited. As The Bearded One said earlier in the week "How can a place get better?", points at the food, "That's how". The best thing about The Bach, besides the amazing view, is that it is child friendly. We aren't talking child friendly where they tolerate children and have no changing facilities, we're talking it's like going over to your aunty or uncles house. The kids menu is ALL DAY, they have colouring sheets for kids, a toy box for the little ones, two mocka high chairs AND a changing table. You can expect big things from this little place on Wellington's south coast and if you're in the area why not pop in for a coffee or something to eat. You may or may not have seen The Ledgend of Tarzan photos that have emerged of Alexander Skarsgård (and Margot Robbie). I know, I know this has absolutely nothing to do with being a mum or having little ones, BUT it certainly has made my Thursday a lot better, even though it wasn't bad to start with. "It's almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it's about taming the beast," Skarsgård tells USA Today of his new film. "This is about a man who's holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out." Jane, meanwhile is "in no way a passive partner to Tarzan. She's a really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself," Yates says, adding, "In a way, it's a story of two human beings and how they save each other." However we will have to wait till July 2016 to see The Legend of Tarzan on the big screen. Will you be lining up at the cinema to see it?
The Tiny Human wasn't the only one to be spoilt with gifts this past week, I also received a (belated) birthday present from my high school friends who came down from Auckland, and it was just what I needed. I was lucky enough to be given a Celebrate Gift box from Lush. If you have ever been into or walked past Lush you will know how amazing their stores smell. If you are yet to discover Lush, then you really do owe it to yourself, especially if you're a mum. Celebrate Gift contains a Honey I Washed The Kids Soap, Olive Branch Shower Gel, Ro's Argan Body Conditioner, Ocean Salt and Run Red. On the Lush website it is listed under "Men", but you don't have to be a male to enjoy this box of goodies. I am loving the toffee and honey droolworthy Honey I Washed The Kids Soap, it has become my little bit of luxury every morning. Fun is as the name suggests, fun. If you're like me and have never heard about this product before then you should check it out. Fun is a multi-purpose, mouldable soap. It can be used for body, hair, bath and of course fun. A little bit goes a long way and it is super handy not having to change soaps when washing a little one. Lush Fun is definitely on my Christmas Stocking Stuffer List and it should be on yours as well. I'm yet to try out the Olive Branch Shower Gel, but if it is anything like the other Lush products I have tried there is no doubt that I will love it. So if you need a pick me up or just something to look forward to every morning, I suggest that you pop into your nearest Lush store and pick yourself up some goodies, or drop a million hints to your loved ones that you want something from Lush for Christmas.
